Are lash extensions damaging?

No, not when applied correctly. Lash extensions do not damage your natural lashes when they are placed properly on to the natural lash, are the proper length, weight and are well-maintained. At Flawless Faces, we pride ourselves on our training and experience that ensures the safe application and maintenance of a healthy lash line.

How long do I need to wait in between fills?

The standard fill time is every two weeks. Essentially the longer you wait,  the longer fill time you’ll need, and the fewer extensions you’ll have on. However, every client is different, along with every lash line.

Why do I need to clean my lash extensions?

Cleaning your lash extensions is one of the most important parts of having lash extensions. Natural lashes are there to protect your eyes catching debris, skin particles and oil. Lash extensions provide even more of a safeguard that collects and debris. When lashes are not washed daily, a sebum build-up develops along the lash line. If this build-up is not cleaned, then it can lead to lash extensions prematurely falling out, itchiness, irritation and eventually blepharitis.

What is “lash shedding”?

Lash shedding occurs when your natural lashes go through their natural growth cycle. When a new lash grows in, it pushes the old lash out, causing it to shed. Lashes grow in three different phases, anagen, telogen and catagen.  Everyone experiences 2 big sheds per year, typically during spring and fall. Shedding occurs due to the change in the atmosphere, as well as the body's preparation for the upcoming season. A change in the way our hair grows occurs, causing a massive shedding cycle that can last more than the normal time. For optimum hair growth, hair needs to stay in the anagen phase for as long as possible. This can be supported by a healthy diet and lifestyle, using products that care for your lashes and avoiding unnecessary damage that may contribute to the disruption of your lash growth cycle.

How do I know which set is best for me?

This all depends on what look or effect you are hoping to achieve and the current state of your natural lashes.  A consultation can be booked prior to your full set appointment to discuss your lash goals and examine your natural lashes to gain a better understanding of which set would provide the best results for you. Lashes come in all shapes and sizes so it’s important to determine the best set that fits your style best!

I’ve had allergic reactions to lash extensions in the past, can I try them again?

Yes! We offer a spot test for clients who think they may have an allergic reaction or have had one in the past. This is not necessary but definitely a safe bet for those who have concerns. Our bodies build up histamine responses to foreign objects which can lead to a histamine intolerance over time. There are many different lash adhesives on the market, some stronger than others so there is a chance that certain brands may be too strong for you and cause an adverse reaction. The cause of the reaction may not just be the adhesive, but something more mechanical, like lashes not placed correctly as well as the excessive use of adhesive. There are precautions that can be taken, and what we like to call an “allergy protocol” for our more sensitive clients to help reduce the chance of an allergic reaction.

I’m having an allergic reaction, what do I do?

As estheticians, it is out of our scope of practice to officially diagnose an allergy, that's why we recommend seeing a doctor or a medical professional for an official diagnosis. Some home remedies that can subside side effects are, washing your eyes with the lash safe cleanser, applying cortisone cream to the lids and taking an antihistamine. If the reaction is severe, please book a removal appointment and seek medical attention, immediately.  Remember, these are your eyes so you want to be as careful as possible!

I have a set from another studio, can you fill me?

Yes, we can fill you! However, we require that you book a “new client lash fill”. This provides us an adequate measure of time to evaluate your current lashes and remove any extensions that need to go, while properly filling in your extensions. NOTE: If we see poor quality lash work that isn’t up to our standards, we have the right to remove your extensions or not fill you. A full set will not be done in the same day as a removal.

Can I wear mascara with my lash extensions, or can I curl them?

We do not recommend the use of mascara with lash extensions. If you have a volume or hybrid set it will close your fans, so you won’t get the effect of that look. If you want to wear mascara on your bottom lashes or with a classic set, please ask your lash artist what they recommend, and always remember to wash any mascara off with your lash cleanser!  Curling your lash extensions with a lash curler will rip your extensions out as well as your natural lashes.

How should I handle the removal of my lash extensions?

We never advise clients to remove their own extensions, or just letting them fall off on their own, it can be damaging to the natural lash. We kindly ask that if you need or want them removed that you book an appointment at the studio to ensure a safe removal process.

How do I know what lash design and style will look best for me?

Lash consultations are included in a full set where your lash artist can do a “face study” on you to chose the best design, curl, and lengths, that support and enhance your facial features. If you’re interested in learning more before your fullest, you can always book a consultation prior to your full set.

How do I care for my eyelash extensions?

Do not wash eyes, swim, or shower for 12 – 24 hours after lash extension application, to allow time for bonding. Do not rub your eyes.

Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler. Avoid oil-based makeup products, including mascara and eye-makeup remover. These will cause the glue bond to separate. Use only water-based mascara. Apply mascara from mid lash up to the tips, only. Use only water-based facial cleansers if possible. Do not visit saunas or steam rooms frequently. Continued exposure to heat may cause the bond to loosen.

Do not use water-resistant mascara

Fills are required to keep your extensions full and fluffy. As the natural lash grows out the extension will grow out with it. Fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks depending on your natural lash cycle and how full you would like to maintain them.

What is the difference between 60-minute, 90-minute, and extended fills?

The timing reflects the amount of time in between fills. The longer you go, the more appointment time you’ll need. The standard is 2 weeks for a 60-minute fill. 2-3 weeks for 90 and extended fills. After 4 weeks it is considered a full set. Clients with more lashes or wanting to remain full more often, may require a longer fill time.
